Stephen Smith was born in Orlando, Florida, in January 1954 and spent his early childhood on a family dairy farm. After graduating from Oak Ridge High School in 1972, he studied marketing at Chapman University before launching an eight-year career in the food-distribution industry. In 1980, Stephen and a high-school friend set sail on a year-long Caribbean adventure—an odyssey that sparked the first pages of what would become his debut manuscript.
Two years later, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with distinction until his honorable discharge in 1987.Returning to civilian life, Stephen applied his technical skills to the printing industry in Minnesota, helping to develop electronic prepress workflows, then went on to create interactive-voice-response survey systems. He later transitioned into healthcare technology, building automated programs to identify and verify patients eligible for charity care.
An avid traveler who has lived in fifteen states and visited more than a dozen countries across Europe and Central America, Stephen discovered his passion for storytelling at age 62. Now, with his first book nearing publication, he brings a lifetime of adventure, service, and innovation to the page.
